Making an appointment
Appointments are arranged by telephone. Please have available any imaging already performed, previous operation notes, and a list of current medications.
If you are attending about an injury, bring any dressings or splints you have been given, and be prepared to describe how and when it happened.
Urgent hand injuries
Some hand problems need to be seen the same day. Attend your nearest emergency department without delay, or telephone directly, if there is:
- An amputated finger or part of the hand
- A hand or finger that is cold, pale or blue
- A deep cut with numbness, or inability to bend or straighten a finger
- A wound with spreading redness and fever
- A high-pressure injection injury from paint or grease equipment, even if the wound looks small
